The LORD was with him…

And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and not one of his words fell to the ground. – 1 Samuel 3:19 (DRB)

I have read this verse so many times, but almost invariably in Tamil, my mother tongue. While I love the translation, over the years, I have come to realize that there are lots of differences between the original manuscripts and the Tamil translation. This verse was one of them.

In the Tamil translation, it actually says that the LORD was with Samuel and the LORD did not let one of HIS words fall to the ground, similar to the verse in Joshua 23:14. And it is not something that is difficult to understand or accept. If the LORD says something, then the LORD will surely fulfill those words.

But the LORD was moving me to meditate on this verse from yesterday and when I started to read the various translations, I actually got confused. None of the English translations had the same translation. They all had the same verse: that the LORD was with Samuel and did not let any of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.

Now, that is really amazing to me. I mean, think about it. The Israelites were in turmoil. There was no king. Everyone was following his own heart. The Aaronic priest was neglecting the LORD, choosing his sinful sons instead. And, the first verse of the same chapter says that the word of the LORD was rare during those days.

Amidst all these, there was this small boy, who was growing up in the presence of the LORD. The LORD was with him and the LORD made sure that none of Samuel’s words fell to the ground. What tender mercies that the LORD shower on us…!!!

It does not matter whether we are spiritually a child or a giant. What matters most is whether the LORD is with us or not. And, if we grow in the presence of the LORD everyday, when we listen to the words of God every single instance of our life, dear child of God, the LORD will be with us and the LORD Almighty, Whose words give life and destroy life, Whose words created the heavens and earth, will make sure none of our words fall to the ground in vain. And the LORD is ready to give you that honor. So, are you ready to walk with Him?

Romans 8:1-2“[Life Through the Spirit] Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
