My burden – Oppression of the wicked

A-bus-stuck-in-the-mud-on-the-road-to-Arughat

Imagine a bus load of passengers on a muddy road after a severe rain. At some point or the other, the bus will get stuck in the mud. Will not move an inch forward or backward. The harder we try, the deeper the tires get stuck in the mud.

One of the burdens that we, Christians, carry in our lives is something similar to this:

“Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked; for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.” – Psalm 55:3 (KJV 2000)

What does oppression of the wicked mean? The same word for oppression in the original manuscript is used only twice in the Bible – in just one verse.

“Now then, I will crush you as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.” – Amos 2:13 (NIV)

Probably you already know about this in your life. Where the oppression of the wicked has crushed us so much, we just simply cannot go ahead with our life anymore. We also don’t know how to go back and make things right. We are stuck in the same place for so long. The harder we try, the deeper we go down. Are you there, my friend?

The enemy has crushed us so much, we simply don’t have the energy to go ahead. We have no desire to proceed any further. And you have absolutely no idea what to do.

Been there, done that. But then I found the Savior. The LORD God, Who is humble and meek. Jesus Christ, Who jumped into the mud to lift me up. It took a while to understand that the only thing I had to do was to cast my burdens on Him and He will sustain me.

Dear friend, are you stuck in your life? Has the word, deeds and the unnecessary anger of the enemy has crushed you? Are you not able to move forward nor retreat? Has the crushing taken the will to live out of you? Don’t lose heart. All you need to do is:

Cast your burden on the LORD and HE will sustain you. – Psalm 55:22

My burden – Voice of the enemy

tumblr_m9hqshVFeC1rxgytdo1_500

From the voice of the enemy, from the oppression of the wicked, for they shake trouble over me, and in wrath they hate me. – Psalm 55:3(MKJV)

One of the burdens that I carry around is the voice of the enemy. The voice of the enemy mentioned in Psalm 55:3 refers to the slanderous reproaches of an enemy. It could be the devil, it could be a close friend of yours, probably a family member, a co-worker or someone who has nothing to do with you.

Your character will be on trial for no reason. Everything you have done will be under scrutiny. Even if you do a good deed, eyebrows are raised. There are ulterior motives for everything you do and say.

While you realize that you need to defend yourself, you realize that the malicious rumors have been so widespread, there are so many people believing the false stories and you simply don’t know where to start.

As for me, there used to be a time when I tried to explain myself to everyone. I tried to do good things, but in vain. I tried to hide myself from others for time being. It just gave them more fodder. I didn’t know where to really start.

But then, the LORD showed me this verse.

Cast your burden on the LORD and He will sustain you. (Psalm 55:22)

Then I realized that this is not only the starting point, it is also the end point.

Yes, dear friend, are you hurt by all the false accusations, rumors and slanderous remarks thrown at you? Just cast your burden, the burden of all these accusations, the burden of the enemy’s voice, on the LORD and He shall sustain you.

Cast your burden on the LORD

I once went to a gym. Decided to get rid of my tummy that is with me since the day I was born. Bad idea. My tummy is still with me, the way to gym – long forgotten. But something happened there that got my attention.

I have been taught since childhood that when you workout, you need to move the weights slowly and smoothly. But as I was doing biceps with a 50-pound dumbbellSmile, okay, a 15-pound dumbbell Sad smile, I heard this shattering sound that rattled me. Someone who was working with a 75-pound dumbbell (why would anyone want to do that anyway Sleepy smile), dropped the dumbbell on the floor. He kept doing this often and I didn’t understand why. So I asked a friend of mine who actually works out regularly. He said that this guy was dropping the 75-pound dumbbell because it is heavy (duh) and he was not able to hold it any longer.

The surprising fact is that most of the Christians are actually stronger, much stronger than we think we are. I mean, we carry so much burden and so much load on our shoulders. Even when the LORD says, “Just throw it on Me, I will carry it for you”, we refuse to yield. We may complain, we may murmur, but… no, we will not cast our burden on the LORD.

I was surprised to find out that one of the literal translation for the word “cast” in the original script actually says “to throw down” or “to hurl” – just like that guy was doing in the gym.

Yes, dear friend, the burden we are carrying is too heavy for us. It is slowing us down, it is wearing us down. We are losing our hopes. We are not interested in our lives any longer. All because of this burden that we are carrying.

I don’t know what your burden today is. It could be an emotional burden. It may be some spiritual problem. It could be something financial or something to do with the family.

Whatever be it, it is time for us to just drop it. Don’t carry it even for one more second. You have already carried it too long. You have already suffered enough. The LORD is standing right next to you, to give you rest. Let us throw our burdens on the LORD. And partake in His rest.

Voice of the strangers – Great things

One of the things that often distract us from the following the voice of our Good Shepherd is the urge to do great things. Of course, there may be many reasons why we have this urge. If you ask a number of Christians about this urge for doing great things, probably you will get a divided voice about that. a20791b136d4c226c0f562_m

One group will tell you that this urge to do great things is in fact demonic in nature. That it is the voice of devil. That is the core of the self-help dogmas which are nothing but self-serving. That reflects the pride and ego of the fallen man. That it symbolizes everything that was wrong with Adam and Eve. That is what exactly happened during the building of the Tower of Babel.

william_carey_expect_great_things_from_god_mousepad-rf6646a3027a6012f146e00ffb0cb9003_x74vi_8byvr_512Another group will tell you that the urge to do great things is nothing but a reflection of the greatness of our LORD in Whose image we all are created. That the LORD’s Spirit is in us who guides us to do great things for our Lord Jesus Christ. That it is one of the promises of our Savior Jesus Christ for us: that we will do greater things than He did. That we need to expect great things from God and we need to do great things for God.

IMHO, the urge to great things depends on each of our calling. While the prophet Elijah did great things, John the Baptist did not do a single great thing in his life. Yet Jesus Christ said that of all who were born of woman, there is none greater than John the Baptist. So, I will leave it up to each person and his/her calling to decide on that.

But there is something else. Often in our desire to do something great for our LORD, we often forget another important thing that the LORD our God desire in us: obedience. For example, you are waiting for a great deliverance. If the LORD commands you to fast for 3 days and pray, yes, you will do it happily. If the LORD says give so much money to this charity that it hurts you financially, yes, you will do it – here I am not sure about the “happily” part though Smile. But if the LORD says, “Wait for Me patiently, with a trusting heart, filled with joy”, guess what will happen?

When Naaman, the Syrian commander, who suffered from leprosy, came to Elisha for a cure, the only command he was given was to immerse in River Jordan seven times. It was a small matter and that irked Naaman so much. Then his servants point out that if Elisha had asked Naaman to do some great things, he would have done it willingly. But it was because it was such a simple task, Naaman was angry.

Dear friend, ask yourself today. You really are upset with the delay in God’s deliverance. You are sulking because instead of great commands like fast for three days or pray for 7 days, our LORD has given you an easy command: praise Me, be joyful, wait for Me. Ask today. Do you really believe in our LORD? Do you really want great things in your life? Are you waiting for the LORD to do miracles in your life? Then let us do the small things that He has commanded in our life. Because obedience for the smallest of things is the best way to show that your faith, indeed, is great. Amen.

The LORD restores my soul and how!!!

Wounded. Deeply hurt. Scarred for life. Failures of the past. Declining health. Tough family situations. Financial mess. Emotional struggles. Dear friend, our souls may be suffering all these at this very moment. But our Good Shepherd Jesus Christ restores our souls.

herestoresmysoul

Our LORD Jesus Christ embraced us in our dire situations. With love, He lifted us out the miry pit in which we fell. In His grace, He carried us in His shoulders and He set our feet on solid ground. The LORD does all these because He wants to restore our souls.

Why is restoring our souls so important to the LORD? Because, dear friend, our LORD wants you to prosper. I don’t know what your present situation is. I don’t know how deeply hurt you are. And I really can’t say I understand your pain. But, only one thing I know for sure is, the LORD wants you to prosper. The LORD wants you to succeed. And, the first step towards a victorious Christian life is a prosperous soul. Unless your soul is prosperous, unless your soul is joyous and happy, you cannot succeed in your life.

6336911_org

Probably your soul is wondering… “But how could I prosper? I have lost so much. There is so much pain in my life. The LORD has dealt severely for the sins of my past. I have no hope now. My health is deteriorating. I am getting old. There is no way for me to get everything back as the LORD Himself has punished me so. So, how can I prosper…?

Dear friend, are you wondering such things in your heart? Probably your family may not know of the sins of your past… and it is condemning you now. Though you have confessed those sins, though you are sure that the LORD has forgiven you, you are also sure that what you have lost is lost.

  • Your youth.
  • Your health.
  • Your wealth.
  • Your happiness.
  • Your joy.
  • Your peace.
  • Your life.

Dear friend, the LORD restores everything. When the LORD restores your soul, He restores everything that you have lost because of HIM.

1-joel-2-vs-252

Does not matter what you lost, why you lost… dear friend, if the Lord Jesus Christ is your Good Shepherd, if you are His sheep, then take heart. The LORD has heard your cries. The LORD has lifted you up, carried you in His shoulders, set your feet on the Rock and now, the LORD will restore everything that you had lost, dear friend. So, let us rejoice. Let your soul be restored. And may you prosper in every aspect of your life as your soul is prospering. Amen.
