And we know that…
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28 (KJV21)
Almost all of us have heard this verse, especially when things are horribly going wrong for us. This is a verse that everyone tells when they absolutely have no clue what is happening to us, but still they have to say something that is supposed to provide us comfort.
No, no, I am not belittling the Word of God and I am surely not deriding those who are trying to help us in anyway they can. The problem is not with them, and not certainly with the Word of God… but with our understanding of this verse.
Yes, we know that all things work together for good… we know that verse…, but dear friend, do you really know that? That is the question. Do we really know that everything work together for our good?
The Greek word used here for ‘know’ is the same Latin word meant for ‘video’, which literally means ‘to see with eyes’, ‘to discover’ and ‘to inspect.’ Yes, it is not passive, it is not that we just know… it is an active voice. (Okay, this is an unchartered territory for me… was never good with grammar. So, if I am wrong grammatically, I apologize.) It is something we need to find out, it is something we need to discover, it is something that we have to examine ourselves and find that all things work together for good.
We can start with the Bible and see how it was true of the saints in the Scriptures. For example, we can talk about how the events in the life of Joseph, every single thing, worked together for his own good. You can read about how one of the most disappointing things in the life of Joseph led to the fulfilling of the LORD’s purpose in his life here.
Now, let us take a step back and look at everything… not just our failures and losses, but everything. Let us look at the big picture, God’s purpose in our life. Let us see how each success, each failure, each disappointment and each triumphs has paved the way for the greater glory that the LORD has planned for us.
Instead of just saying the verse, let us look deep into our circumstances and let us discover how all things work together for our good. And let us taste and see that the LORD is good always. God be with us. Amen.
|Psalm 25:14-15“The LORD confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only He will release my feet from the snare.”
