Lent 2. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
What is this? Walking on water? Or a frozen lake? An optical illusion? A camera trick? Or photoshopped? The answer is none of these. It is a picture taken in Salar de Uyuni, a salt flat in Bolivia. Yes, it is not water or ice beneath, it is salt which reflects so well, it perfectly mirrors the sky.
If you are wondering where Bolivia is, it is a country in South America.
This salt flat, Salar de Uyuni, is the largest salt flat in the world. It is estimated to contain 10 billion tonnes of salt (that is lots of zero after 1) and 43% of lithium reserves of the world is in Bolivia, most of them here at Salar de Uyuni. This salt flat is so large, it has an “island” inside it, by the name of Incahuasi Island. You can see a picture of that island surrounded by the salt flat below.
