The Refugee Crisis and its beginning

As the Refugee Crisis is taking the front page on all newspapers and the primetime of all the news channels, some of us sat down to pray for those refugees and for all the countries that are providing asylum for those refugees. After the prayers, naturally the focus shifted towards the terrorist network ISIS and how it has caused such a huge crisis that no one had predicted. But there is a Christian friend who I respect lot and by the grace of God, he has been quite correct when it comes to political affairs. So, I asked him what he thought caused this refugee crisis and he quietly said, “George W. Bush.”

To be honest, we all were stunned and asked him what he meant by that. https://i0.wp.com/www.willamettelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/bush.jpgHe said how in 2003, when George W. Bush started the war on Iraq, he had warned a Christian prayer group (incidentally, I was part of that prayer group and I remember this warning very clearly) that this war is going to have dangerous consequences and this refugee crisis is one of those consequences.

Going to war on Osama bin Laden was different, but going to war with Iraq was wrong, he told us in March 2003. When some of the Christians pointed out that this would be a way to get rid of Saddam Hussein and a way to introduce the Gospel of our LORD, he countered by asking who we are to decide to get rid of the president of another country. Also, how could we spread the Gospel of Peace, by going to war against a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11. For my surprise, many of the well-meaning Christians could not accept that we can not spread the Gospel of our LORD in a nation by going to war against it.

Now, he pointed out these points.

  • If Bush had not gone to war with Iraq, Saddam Hussein or some other dictator would be still ruling Iraq.
  • Neither of them would have allowed a terrorist group like ISIS to grow in the first place.
  • Hence, this refugee crisis may not even have happened.

I don’t know all the details behind the Refugee Crisis, but looks like my friend has a good point here.

My future

I don’t know what my future holds.

But I know Who holds my future.

2 Corinthians 12:9

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
