Much more than that!

When we obey God, we may have to suffer loss at times. As Amaziah asked, we may wonder what shall we do about our losses. But the Word of God comes to us, through the man of God:

“The LORD can give you much more than that.” – 2 Chronicles 25:9 (NIV)

There are two things we need to notice here.

  1. Whatever be our losses here, our LORD God is able to give us much more than that. The earth and its fullness belongs to the LORD. (Psalm 24:1) Whatever be our losses for His sake, the LORD is able to repay you and repay you much more than your losses.
  2. However, also note that there is no promise here. The prophet does not say, “The LORD will surely give you much more than that.” No, there is absolutely no guarantee attached to this verse. It simply says that the LORD can give you much more than that.

Why is there a promise not attached here? Because most of the time, we are ready to lose certain things for Jesus Christ, only because we know we are going to gain much more. Then it is not a pleasing sacrifice, it is more like the proverb in Tamil that says, “Use a small fish to catch a large fish.”

I know of people who give tithes and offerings to LORD regularly with one thing on their minds: If I give 10, God will give me 100; if I give 100, God will give me 1000. Finally, the LORD God Almighty has become an high-interest savings account for us.

No, dear friend, the LORD wants you to believe in Him. Believe that He is just. That He would never let us, His children, who trust in Him, be ashamed. Remember, if you lose for the sake of God, you may not receive it back today. But, keep in mind, that God can give you much more than your losses.

You may have to suffer today, you have to bear your cross, you may have to lose your right eye… but the LORD is able to give you much more than that.

Don’t ever think that your loss for Jesus Christ will not hurt you. Trust me, it will hurt, it really will hurt. That’s why Apostle Paul says that whatever is our gain, that we consider to be a loss for the sake of our LORD.

That’s why our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ promised one thing to the Apostles. “If you lose something for Me, you will receive it back a hundredfold now, and then, eternal life… but with persecutions.” – Mark 10:29-30 (paraphrased and emphasis added by me)

Yes, dear friend, when we lose for the LORD, we will surely suffer. It is a given. We will have persecutions, in one way or the other. But we will also surely receive eternal life and also a hundredfold of whatever we lose for Him.

Are you willing to trust in Him and are you ready to sacrifice your gain? If so, may the LORD God our Savior give you much more than what you are losing for His sake. Amen.
